Atlanta Traffic

Atlanta has some of the worst traffic in the country. Even though the National is in Perry (which doesn't have much traffic at all), many of you will be traveling to and from the Atlanta airport or through Atlanta as you drive South. Here is how we generally describe Atlanta rush hour:

The 8 a.m. rush hour is from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The 5:00 p.m. rush hour is from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday's rush hour starts Thursday morning and lasts through 2:00 a.m. Saturday.

If you will be driving through Atlanta or visiting there for excursions, it's definitely best to not arrive or depart during the week at rush hour. And as you just read above, rush hour lasts a long time. You can't automatically escape it on the weekends either, because that's when they do all the construction that they can't do during the week. Plus there are often sporting events, concerts, conventions, etc. in town that can slow traffic down.

  1. Construction south of Atlanta (I-75/I-675 junction) and I-475/I-75 junction. Neither should posed long delays unless there is an accident. Motorists are advised in advance of lane changes/delays. Watch for signs.
